Two weekends ago, I was invited to join the sports festival of the Filipino Association for Computer Excellence (FACE) in the UAE.
I woke up at 5:00 AM that Friday to meet the entire Abu Dhabi team at the assembly point. It was overwhelming to see the buzzing Filipino crowd so early that cold morning. We filled up 4 buses (or was that 5?) and headed off to Dubai.
I brought a friend along, meet Sheyne. Aside from 2 former colleagues and 2 acquaintances, we didn’t know anyone from the hundreds of people that day. 
Nevertheless, we didn’t feel ignored or treated differently from the members. In fact, everyone was so warm and accommodating, like they’ve known us for years.
The turn up of people and players proved that this association have the most dedicated and actively involved members.
Teams from the 7 emirates of the UAE fought against in each other in different games and categories like basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, sprints, sack race, obstacle run and the cheerdance competition.
These are expats and labor forces, mostly working 6 times a week. Imagine all the extra hours they commited in rehearsing, training and organizing. This sports festival is proof of the solidarity of FACE across the UAE.
Sheyne and I were all over the place, cheering for the Abu Dhabi Green Falcons!
My favorite part was the awarding ceremony when impromptu performances came up. It’s really amazing how versatile, fun-loving and spontaneous the Filipinos are. Unfortunately, my camera’s battery died, I wasn’t able to capture the singing circus and the crowd that went crazy-happy at the end of the day.

I had a really great time and I would like to be invited again next year. Or better yet, be a member by that time.
