Rotorua: Meeting New Friends

I met a new set of friends through Shellah today. We shamelessly invited ourselves for a sleepover at their house.

“You should see the view from their deck!” Shellah kept telling me on our way there. Oh yes, she wasn’t exaggerating.rotorua tourism rotorua tourism

I can stay home all day if this is what I see from my window…rotorua tourism

The Robertsons warmly welcomed us and fed us, every opportunity they had.rotorua tourism

We had an interesting night with Uncle Carrick who gave us good history lessons through his family lineage, diaries and ancient paraphernalia.rotorua tourism

Here’s a family reunion! My GoPro meets her great great great great grandfather.

Waking up to this view every morning is like daily healing for the wounded soul.rotorua tourism

Thanks, ate Norma, for the Kiwi-pino breakfast!rotorua tourism

During the meal, Uncle Carrick volunteered his boat to bring us to the Lake Rotoiti Hot Pools. What a treat! I’m writing another blog post on that. Read it here.rotorua tourism

After a relaxing morning in the steaming pools, we came back home and devoured these homemade scones.rotorua tourism rotorua tourism

I am humbled by the hospitality of our hosts. They opened their home to my friend and me (who they’ve never met), on a short notice in a busy week.

Not only did they give us a room to sleep in but they willingly toured us, cooked for us and baked for us.

With hearts like theirs, they deserve the best views in town, so they can be a blessing to more people who come their way.
