My First Balikbayan Box

The first Christmas without papa was the saddest Christmas of all. The adults were in silent tears while the kids looked at us with curious faces.

Since then, we started a tradition of filling up one side of the house with gifts and making sure the kids enjoyed every moment of Christmas day.

Christmases in the Lucasi home are always a full house.

This year, I am a minus one from the crowd but I’d be sending my fulfillment of the tradition with this jumbo box. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough money to make the box reach home just in time for Christmas. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the vessel carrying my box would have miraculous sea waves and blasting winds that would speed up its journey to reach the Philippine shores by New Year.

It took me 3 months to fill up my first send-home box. I now feel like an accomplished OFW. I didn’t know it was extremely exhausting to finalize a package. Thanks to Ivory’s uncle, TITO JONG, for putting up with me the entire afternoon, helping me squish and crunch to make everything fit. GAH! Someone needs to invent a really huge packing tape to spare us from going round and round the box.

Dear box, please reach home as fast as you can. A dozen kids await your arrival in great anticipation.

secondly, what’s with the packing tape-covered box?! i just seal the edges. that’s it. pahihirapan mo lang silang mag-open ng kahon..

and last but not least, yan pala pinagkakaabalahan mo kaya ka pala out of coverage. LOL

    1. it’s easy for them to open kaya. Just a slash of a knife would pop the box open. I was told to wrap it tight, secure everything coz the boxes are just tossed around from port to port. I dunt want my gifts to scramble out just because of lazy people who don’t do proper transport.

hahaha. yeah, it takes a lotta work. I’m making history e. hahaha. apir, clubmate 🙂

  4. Wow, kakainggit naman mga kids na ‘to! Growing up I never received more than a couple of gifts even on my birthday. Not that I was deprived, just almost never given cash or stuff like Barbies. More like clothes and bags for school and that sort of thing.
Vi, maybe you ought to blur the address on the box. You never know what personal info like that may be used for.
    Hope it gets here quick!
