Paragliding in South Korea: Life in Danyang

Two tandem flights, zero solo flights and 1 million calories – this is the summary of my life in Danyang for the month of March.

How does Awesome Pilot Jason take care of a sick friend – steaming hot ramyeon for breakfast! danyang paragliding south korea

Still sick, but bulgogi and a soccer game saved the day.danyang paragliding south korea

Stayed at home while sneezing, eating and watching my Korean drama. Before midnight, the house owner knocked on my door and left me a plate of sushi. Bless his heart.danyang paragliding south korea

I hurt my already-injured knees again so Pilot Im dragged me to an acupuncture clinic. I am scared of doctors, needles and medical equipment. Just imagine the horror going on inside me. I barely survived.

My reward was a delightful dinner…danyang paragliding south korea

For dinner, I joined my pilot-friends for chicken and beer. But because I don’t drink, it was chicken and more chicken for me.danyang paragliding south korea

My pilot-chef housemate cooks the best bulgogi meal in town!

What a great way to wake up in the morning.danyang paragliding south korea

For dinner, Jason kidnapped me in a van and took me to a meal with his flying club.

Ahhh salmon, my old friend! You can kidnap me anytime for this.danyang paragliding south korea

Pilot Im tricked me into going to town, only to pull me inside the acupuncture clinic. I have not recovered yet from the anxiety attack of my last visit, so I strongly refused to go back. Sad. I wish I didn’t have such trauma. I missed out on having more Korean acupuncture sessions.

We ended up having lunch instead…danyang paragliding south korea

I woke up feeling down. I tried biking but my knees didn’t take me far enough to give me a boost of endorphins for the day. I went back to bed wishing I would die in my sleep.danyang paragliding south korea

I woke up to the smell of food. That’s my house owner in the kitchen, preparing breakfast for us.

The wind condition was bad that day, so these pilots came over to chill. After lazing around for the afternoon, we went downtown for dinner…danyang paragliding south korea

I love iced noodles even on a cold day!danyang paragliding south korea

Before going home, they took me to some of the tourist spots in Danyang (more about this later).

I woke up feeling all alone in this world. It’s funny how people think a depressed person will always be okay as long as they are surrounded by friends. Not all the time. Sometimes the strongest feeling of loneliness comes when we are in a crowd. We can still smile and function normally, but deep inside there’s a black cloud that won’t go away.

Before I crash, I knew it was time to leave. I packed my bags and said goodbye to my friend.danyang paragliding south korea

Off to another part of South Korea. Hopefully, my mood lifts up from there!danyang paragliding south korea
