Paragliding in South Korea is a huge industry. Since it’s birth in 1986, they have produced over 20,000 pilots and have put up 200 take-off areas scattered around the country.
This year they have 5,000 registered pilots, 1,000 of which are active fliers. There are almost 100 open fly sites, 20 of which are operating commercially.
Note: numbers are rough estimates provided by an expert source
So why choose Awesome Paragliding in Danyang out of all the fly sites in South Korea? Apart from their brilliant pilots and attractive flight options, you get one of the best views in the countryside.
WELL-DEVELOPED TAKE-OFF SITE
Mount Doo (DuSan) is home to a number of paragliding companies. The take-off areas are continually being developed.
Every season the general color and ambiance of the mountain changes. During Winter it is white and snow-covered. In Spring it is brownish dotted with colorful flowers. Summer welcomes the lush green hues. Fall brings in the yellow-orange foliage.
THE COLORFUL SKIES
Because this county is the most popular paragliding destination, you get to see so many vibrant wings flying at the same time. Let me flood you with photos I took during the busiest days…
It’s not always like this though. During slow days, especially on the weekdays, the sky can be all yours.
THE SCENIC LANDING ZONE
The landscape just before descent is breathtaking. You come down looking at vast fields on one side, mountains on the other side and torquoise waters in between.
MUST-SEE TOURIST SPOTS
Danyang is a tourist attraction because of its eight scenic views plus the many natural, cultural, and historical spots that you can’t see in Seoul. Here are a few of my favorite places…
Gosu Cave
Chungju Lake Cruise
Dodamsambong
Suyanggae Light Tunnel
Mancheonha Skywalk
And the famous Googyeong Traditional Market where I love to eat..
There is so much more to explore! But if you’re short of time, just wandering around the town center is already satisfying. The quiet streets are lined with restaurants, shops, cafes and parks.
I have visited Danyang a few times already but it keeps captivating me each time I return.
